The Legacy of Education and Training

2017
The approach to localisation that we have outlined in this volume is, we believe, the only effective, sustainable model for the upstream oil and gas industry in the 21st century. Our belief in this model is driven very much by our understanding of the dynamic between energy, education and economy and by a commitment to the idea that it is only by implementing an effective approach to localisation that oil and gas operations can benefit governments, communities and citizens in host countries and remain commercially viable for oil and gas companies in the long term. This chapter specifically examines the wider legacy that a sustainable approach to localisation will engender. We focus specifically on the need to diversify away from oil and gas operations and then on how our model of localisation can ensure a skills legacy and an education and training legacy that will outlive the oil and gas that's in the ground.
