Comparative study on Improvement in Battery Management System of Hybrid Batteries

Internal Combustion Engine Transport Vehicles (TVs) causes carbon emissions, which in turn contribute to the greenhouse effects. Hence, Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Electric vehicles emerged as an alternative. However, these TVs require energy storage system for maximum usage. In spite of concentrated researches and/or experimental developments on HBESS for TVs, the utilization of a superior and reliable HBESS still faces challenges. Consequently a reliable HBESS with superior performance is compulsory. Current TVs’ batteries demands high power and energy for acceleration and braking achievement. In HEVs, the internal combustion energy provides maintenance and power to the battery in a constant State-of-Charge (SOC), while the battery supplies transitory peak loads. Most EVs run on Lithium-ion batteries which are repeatedly recharged which lead to draining of the battery and consequently its degradation and range loss. This paper reviews some of the emerged solutions and on-going alternatives for an improved HBESS for TVs.
