Route Lifetime Prediction Method in VANET by Using AODV Routing Protocol (AODV-LP)

2018
Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs) will be an important component of the future Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Single-hop multicast communications are most common in VANET. However, with future development of vehicular technologies, multi-hop unicast applications will play an important role in entertainment or other VANET-as-infrastructure applications. Due to link instabilities in VANET, it is important to consider the lifetime of links, in order to find and use the most stable routes for multi-hop applications. In order to do this, we propose a method which predicts the link lifetime between two moving vehicles, based on their relative speed. We then use the predicted value to calculate route lifetime, and choose the most route for data transmission in VANET. We plan to implement the prediction scheme in AODV routing protocol. The speed information will be carried forward by RREQ packets and the Lifetime information will be carried back by the RREQ packets. We expect that by using the new method stable route will be chosen, consequently improving Packet Delivery Rate (PDR) and Throughput of the network.
