3P-80 : Sonochemically Activated Synthesis of Gradationally Complexed Ag/TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose for Multifunctional Textiles with Efficient EMI Shielding

2020
With the recent growing concern of the device malfunctions by electromagnetic interference and information leakage problem by informatized electromagnetic waves, various studies on electromagnetic interference shielding have been actively conducted. In this study, sonochemically activated TEMPO-mediated oxidation and silver nanoparticles synthesis is applied to uniformly oxidize the surface of cellulose and evenly coat silver NPs on the TOC. By controlling the TEMPO oxidation reaction time under sonication, amount of carboxyl groups generated on the surface of the cellulose can be controlled, and the degree of cation exchange of silver ions with carboxyl groups can also be controlled. Through SEM and TEM, it is observed that the silver nanoparticles were evenly coated on the TOC surface. EMI shielding tests were conducted to verify that the human body could be protected from electromagnetic waves, confirming that the Ag/TOC textiles had an electromagnetic shielding rate of ~50 dB.
