Spinal Instability in Metastatic Disease

Neoplastic disease creates a unique challenge when determining the relative stability of the human spine. This chapter will start by highlighting the anatomic stabilizers of the spine and explore the role of imaging in determining competency and compromise of these structures. Finally, it will provide an overview of classification systems for spinal instability, finishing with the validated Spinal Instability Neoplastic Score (SINS).
