Preparations for the fully remote exchange of JET divertor modules

1997
At the beginning of 1998 it is planned to replace all 144 JET MK II divertor carrier modules with new modules. This exchange operation will be performed entirely remotely by means of the JET Mascot servo-manipulator transported inside the torus on the articulated boom. The Mascot will deploy specially designed tooling to handle modules to and from their torus location and will transport them to and from a separate transfer system interfacing between the inside and outside of the torus. This paper describes the preparations being made for this first fully remote handling shutdown for JET.
