LAPAROSCOPIC STERILIZATION WITH A SPRING‐LOADED CLIP

1974
A spring-loaded clip which can be applied to the fallopian tubes via a 10 mm diameter laparoscope was developed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Between September 1972 and November 1973 the clip was inserted in 297 patients who underwent laparoscopic sterilization while under local anesthesia and in 3 patients while under general anesthesia. There were no major complications. Vasovagal reactions did occur in 25 patients resulting from excessive manipulation of the uterus while attempting to expose the tubes for proper application of the clip. 4 patients became pregnant after clip applications due to faulty application of the clips.
