1P-429: Carbon Quantum Dots for Photocatalytic Oxidative Coupling Reactions of Amines

2016
We prepared visible light active Hollow Carbon Quantum Dots (HCQDs) by solvothermal treatment of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone using 2H-MoS2 nanosheets as a catalyst and dopant. The prepared HCQDs showed 22 nm quasi-spherical structure with 7 nm hollow interior. The HCDs showed highly intense fluorescence emission and absorption in visible region with a band gap of 2.7 eV. Then, the photocatalytic activity of the vis-HCDs was investigated for the oxidative coupling reaction of amines at room temperature. They showed high catalytic activity in the reaction under light irradiation (> 400 nm), including homocoupling of aromatic amines and heterocoupling between aliphatic amine and aromatic amines. This synthetic approach can provide an opportunity in the progress in metal-doped carbon-based materials for photocatalysis.
