RPE and Choroid Transplantation in Macular Degeneration

In recent years many advances have been made in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs have markedly changed the therapeutical approach of the neovascular type of the disease. Despite these improvements, many patients still suffer from progressive vision loss. This chapter reviews 10 years of experience in the field of retinal pigment epithelium and choroid transplantation, a promising surgery with the ambitious goal of offering a treatment to patients that do not have effective and lasting therapeutic options.
