T h e re are several instruments to evaluate coping strate­ gies. However, the analysis of the application of this tests with diff e rent samples outlines its statistical inconsistency. On the other hand it exists a deficit in the design of scales or questionnaires that value the coping strategies in patient with chronic pain in a Spanish sample. In this work, a q u e s t i o n n a i re of coping strategies for chronic pain is pre­ sented, developed starting from several sources (other q u e s t i o n n a i res, verbalizations of the own patients, clinical experiences and theoretical positions), in which an entire l y Spanish sample of patient with chronic pain has been used for its construction. Material and method: 229 patients from the Multidisciplinar Unit for Pain Treatment in the Universitary General Hospital of Va l e n c i a w e re evaluated; 25% (n=57) males and 75% (n=172) females, with a diagnosis of neuropatic pain in 36.2% of the cases, and of somatic pain in 59%, being the rest diagno­ sed of visceral pain (3.9%) and psycogen pain (0.9%).
