Metamorphic developmental possibilities related to boring operation in the near future

2020
Chatter or vibration is an inevitable phenomenon and generally occurs in the machining process due to its cantilever shape. This results in a decrement in productivity and surface quality. Extensive research is carried out since 1960 to spot, recognize, decrease, control or restrain chatter. This paper deals with the classification of chatter and its suppression mechanism, i.e. active, passive and semi-active control. Also most of the boring process performed in the dry medium as given in the literature. This paper also provides the possibility of shifting the machining from dry to near dry machining by the use of a minimum quantity of lubrication. A combined effect of chatter suppression and near dry machining is explored.
