Mezoteliom malign pleural la un pacient fără expunere la azbest

Pleural malignant mesothelioma is an aggressive form of malignancy, typically related to asbestos exposure and occurring several decades after exposure. We present the case of a 73-year-old male patient, with no apparent ex­posure to asbestos, non-smoker, in whom a pleural effusion was discovered accidentaly. Pleural needle biopsy showed an epithelioid mesothelioma, confirmed by immunostains. PET-CT scan confirmed the pleural extension of the tumor. The non-asbestos causes of mesothelioma are discussed.
