Integrated stratigraphic and lithologic interpretation of the East-Senlac heavy oil pool

1995
In order to define a more accurate reservoir model for improved reservoir understanding and new well drilling, a methodology integrating 3D poststack seismic data, impedance logs and geological knowledge was applied to the East Senlac heavy oil pool. It starts with a multi-well-to-seismic calibration to ensure consistency between well impedance logs and poststack seismic data. Then a 3D direct impedance model is built to introduce and validate structural and depositional knowledge, and provides a 3D coherent initial geological model. A stratigraphic inversion is then carried out to capitalize on the 3D initial geological model and optimize the fit between the band limited response of the model and the observed seismic data. Finally seismic facies analysis is carried out on the inversion results with statistical pattern recognition techniques for mapping geologically homogeneous areas between wells.
