The authors reviewed how the panic disorder diagnostic was initially proposed by Klein based on a treatment response to antidepressant instead of anti-anxiety agents. Based on a traditional review of literature the authors described the state-of-the-art on panic disorder treatment using medications, not only those that are described as first line agents as those that are most prescribed by psychiatrists all over the world. The authors also did a review of possible targets, on future drugs that could be used as an improvement to panic disorder treatment
