Effects of Tool Pin Profiles on Mechanical Properties of Al/TiB2 Surface Composite Fabricated by Friction Stir Process

2021
This paper is focused on fabricating TiB2 reinforced surface composites via the Friction Stir Process (FSP) method to study the effect of tool pin profile on mechanical properties. The surface composites were fabricated with the help of an experimental setup developed on the vertical milling machine. The microstructure analysis was carried out using a Scanning Electron Microscope for the distribution of reinforcement in the matrix material. The mechanical behavior was evaluated with the help of computerized Vickers microhardness tester, Universal testing machine, and digital impact tester. The result revealed that surface composite exhibited better tensile strength, impact strength and hardness as compared to matrix materials. The surface composites fabricated with threaded pin tool showed better properties as compared to the taper pin tool.
