The invention relates to a tower type solar photo-thermal power generation system taking carbon dioxide as a heat collecting working medium, and belongs to the technical field of solar thermal power generation. The tower type solar photo-thermal power generation system comprises a tower type heat collector, a steam turbine, an electric generator, a cooler and a compressor; one end of the tower type heat collector is communicated with the inlet end of the steam turbine through a high-temperature carbon dioxide conveying pipe; the other end of the tower type heat collector is communicated with the compressor through a low-temperature carbon dioxide conveying pipe; the compressor is connected with the steam turbine through the cooler; the steam turbine is connected with the electric generator. The tower type solar photo-thermal power generation system is compact and simple in arrangement, improves the heat efficiency of a power plant, completely utilizes the captured carbon dioxide, reduces discharge of the carbon dioxide, and directly utilizes the carbon dioxide working medium to generate electricity.
