Role of Yarrowialipolytica in production and bio-modification of lipids

Nowadays fuel consumption has drastically increased worldwide. As a result, it’s a major issue of concern as it one of non-renewable source of energy available to us. This makes us think of a better alternative that can be used in place of a costly fuel. To be more specific the oils derived from microorganisms can serve better option over biodiesel production. However, to meet market demands larger quantities of microbial oils is required, this can be possible with designing better genetic engineering and bioprocess strategies which can improve their productivity and yield. This review paper discusses the potential of Y.lipolytica, oleaginous yeast as a biofuel producer, the genome modification so as to overexpress the enzymes responsible for lipid accumulation and future prospects.
