Studieson voltagedistributions on gaplesszincoxidesurgearresters were conductedwith both analysisandexperiments.Theanalysis was conductedby thefiniteelementmethod. A procedureadvantageous in accuracyandcomputation timewas proposedforanalysis of fields involvingfloatingpotential metals neededforthedesignofarresters. Theexperiments were carriedoutby neon tubeand optical-electronics device using "PockelsEffect" crystalLiTaO3,whosemeritsanddemeritswere evaluated. Theseapproachesshowed good agreement between analysis andmeasurement. It can now be concludedthat analysiscanbe effectively appliedto mostarrester voltagedistribution designs,butthatan experimental methodmay be more effectiveif thearrestersare imposedin contaminated environments.
