Study on the in vitro Anti-HSV-1 Activity of Aqueous Extract from Litsea coreana

2011
Objective To investigate the anti-herpes simplex virus type 1 activity of methanol extract from Litsea coreana. Methods Anti-HSV-1 activity of methanol extract was observed and determined with CPE and plaque reduction assay.Initial studies on antiviral mechanisms included three aspects: virucidal assay, attachment assay and penetration assay. Results Methanol extract had conspicuous anti-HSV-1 activity, with an IC50 value of 12.02μg/ml.The methanol extract could inactivate virus directly, and inhibit virus attachment, but had no influence on virus penetration. Conclusion Methanol extract from the leaves of Litsea coreana has conspicuous anti-HSV-1 activity, probably happened at the stage of HSV-1binding,absorption and ingress to Vero cells.
