The isomer with spin 12 in 196Au

Abstract In the decay of the 12 − isomer in 196 Au, a group of levels with spins 8 + , 7 + and 5 + from one configuration and another group with spins 6 + and 7 + from another configuration is excited. The lowest excited level decays by a second isomeric transition to the 2 − ground state. Precise energies, multipole assignments and transition probabilities are measured for all transitions involved. Shell-model assignments can be made for all excited states.
