Cereal-millet intake as an indicator of calorie adequacy

1983
Results from diet surveys made in Andhra Pradesh during 1975-79 were used. The contribution of different foods to total energy taken by different age groups was calculated using food composition tables. Total energy derived from cereals and millets decreased with increasing income. Critical values for cereals and millets above which subjects can be taken to meet their energy requirements were calculated for each income group in different age groups. The critical cereal and millet values calculated could be used successfully whenever cereal and millet energy contribution is more than 70% of total energy.
