Carbon heating elements for high-temperature furnaces

1993
The heatproof carbon composite material UKM-11 was developed for the heaters and construction elements of high-temperature electric furnaces. In comparison to traditional metal and graphite heaters, articles made of UKM-11 are characterized by a lower weight, high thermal strength, and the ability to alter the electrophysical properties. The high-temperature behavior of UKM-11 was investigated in a nonoxidizing medium. It was shown that the strength of the material does not deteriorate when the temperature is increased from 293 to 2273 K. The specific resistance decreases monotonically, and the decrease slows with an increase in the final temperature of heat treatment of the material.
