Use of Electronic Digital Computers in Optical Design

1955
ELECTRONIC digital computers in Britain and the United States have been used for the tracing of rays at high speeds through optical systems. The larger machines have enough auxiliary storage, either magnetic drum or tape, to accommodate enormous amounts of information, so that it is possible to carry out extensive numerical investigations concerning lens systems.
