ROI Based Perfusion Estimation in Peripherals Using C-arms: a Simulation Study

2012
In this paper we evaluate a region-based perfusion estimation methodfor outcome assessment in peripherals using C-arms. The method is based on a segmentation of the object in regions of interest (ROIs) derived from two rotational soft tissue scans and on angiography froma fixed viewing position. The temporal attenuation curves in the ROIs are estimated from the angiographic data assuming spatially homogeneous contrast uptake within the regions. The influence of the number of ROIs on the estimation accuracy was investigated in a simulation study using CT perfusion acquisitions as input data. Results showthat the homogeneity in the ROIs improves when using higher numberof regions, therefore the method is potentially very accurate, however at high number of ROIs due to the higher number of parameters theestimation procedure is more challenging.
