Effects of Salicylic Acid on Several Physiological Indexes of Kidney Bean under Water Stress

2005
The effects of exogenous salicylic acid treatments on water content, pigment content, electrolyte leakage, activities of SOD, POD, CAT in leaves and electrolyte leakage, activities of SOD, POD, CAT in roots of kidney bean seedlings under water stress were studied. Results showed that exogenous salicylic acid could alleviatethe decline of water content and pigment content of leaves, and maintain the activities of SOD, CAT in leaves and SOD, POD, CAT in roots. However, it increased the electrolyte leakage of leaves and roots, and decreased the activity of POD in leaves. These indicated that salicylic acid could alleviate the injury of water stress on kidney bean seedlings.
