Ab-021 antibiotic and its production

NEW MATERIAL: A solid AB-021a antibiotic having characteristics good in the solubility to dimethylsulfoxide and (1:1 V/V) ethanol/water or (1:1 V/V) metanol/water mixture (V/V), low in the solubility to water and good in the solubility to ethanol and methanol and having elemental analysis (%): C64.3, H9.15, N1.04 and having a mol.wt. of 1139. USE: A fungicide and a sterilizing agent. PROCESS: Streptomyces sp NCIB 40068 or its allogenic variant is cultured in an aq. nutrition medium containing assimilable carbon, nitrogen and inorg. salt sources under controlled aerobic fermentation conditions to obtain antibiotic activity and, thereafter, an antibiotic is recovered.
