Effect of Pulse Electric Current on the Macrostructure of Al and Al-5.3% Zn Alloy

The change of macrostructure of pure Al and Al-5.3%Zn alloy with pulse electric current is studied. It is found that the pulse electric current can produce an obvious effect on the shape and size of grain in pure Al and Al-5.3%Zn alloy. Comparing with the solidified sample in the absence of pulse electric current, the grain is refined and equiaxed with pulse electric current because compelling convection can promote the grain dissociate from mold wall, and increase nucleation rate.
