Solid Biomass Fuel, a Threat of COPD in Rural India with Special Focus on Women

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease chiefly attribute to tobacco smoking; however, there are some other potential risk factor like long exposure to smoke caused by burning of solid biomass fuel inside household also needs attention. This article reviews the use of solid biomass fuel in rural India. It is seen that majority rural population depends on solid biomass fuel which is locally available. Women are more vulnerable to COPD since they are involved in cooking indoors using solid biomass fuel.
