Transient Interfacial Concentration at a Notched Electrode by Laser Interferometry

1993
A notched cathode in the otherwise horizontal plane parallel, cathode-over-anode configuration of the Cu/CuSO 4 /Cu cell was monitored for concentration polarization. Refractive index/concentration profiles were recorded by laser interferometry using a 35 mm camera and a video system. To prevent convection, the electrolyte was gelled. Notches of 30 degrees (apex angle) to 120 degrees were studied. From the concentration profiles, the current distribution can be calculated and the effect of «aspect ratio» seen
