The right of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families to effective child protection services
2020
This chapter describes the scale and nature of over-representation in Australia, using available administrative data. It argues for a rights-oriented theoretical framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child wellbeing to replace the current child protection orientation. It also sets out actions that are required to enact a rights framework, and discusses implications for child protection workers and other professionals involved in responding to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
