Hyloscirtus Tigrinus Mueses-Cisneros Y Anganoycriollo, 2008: Una especie amenazada, con comentarios sobre su distribución geográfica e historia natural

Se presenta el estado actual del conocimiento de la rana atigrada Hyloscirtus tigrinus, con base en la informacion obtenida a partir de 32 exploraciones herpetologicas realizadas entre los anos 2005–2009 en el Suroccidente de Colombia y Norte de Ecuador. La especie se detecta en seis de las 24 localidades muestreadas, cuatro de las cuales no habian sido reportadas previamente en la literatura. Se amplia el rango de distribucion geografica y altitudinal para la especie, se describe la variacion de su coloracion en vida y se realizan adiciones de informacion sobre su historia natural. Con base en la informacion obtenida proponemos la asignacion de la categoria de En Peligro (EN) y como medida preventiva, la inclusion en la Categoria I del CITES. Esperamos que esta recopilacion de informacion sea util para conservar a esta hermosa rana y conservar los habitats donde ella se distribuye. Abstract Hyloscirtus tigrinus Mueses-Cisneros and Anganoy-Criollo, 2008: A threatened species, with comments on its geographic distribution and natural history The current state of the knowledge of the tiger frog Hyloscirtus tigrinus is presented, on the basis of information obtained from 32 explorations carried out among the years 2005–2009 in Southwestern Colombia and Northern Ecuador. The species is reported in six of the 24 localities visited, four of them not reported previously in the literature. The range of geographical and altitudinal distribution for the species is extended. The variation in its life coloration is described, and additional information to its natural history is presented. On the base of the obtained information, we propose to assign the IUCN threat category of Endangered (EN) and the inclusion in the CITES Category I. We hope that this summary of information be useful to preserve this beautiful frog and the habitats where it is distributed.
