Excavations at Tell el-Balamun 1995-1998

2000
This is a sequel to Excavations at Tell el-Balamun 1991-1994, by the same author and chronicles the 1995-1998 excavation seasons at the same site. Written in very much the same manner as the earlier volume, this book can stand by itself, but to make the best use of the information contained within it the reader needs to have the 1991-1194 volume within reach, particularly where descriptions of pottery are given since types illustrated in the first volume are not repeated in the second. As with the first volume this second volume roughly proceeds excavation season by excavation season, hence the first chapter is devoted to the main Amun temple - the temple A of the 1991-1994 volume - in which additional information which came to light in the 1995 season is published, followed by a chapter concerned with the remains which overlay the temple ; structures dependent on the Thirtieth Dynasty temple ; and finally the New Kingdom enclosure wall and its attendant remains discovered in the 1998 season. these archaeological chapters are followed by a catalogue of finds arranged by the material of which they were made, and finally a Commentary. in this reviewer's opinion, the reader is well advised to read this Commentary first since it gives a well written overview, in chronological order, which will be followed here, of the numerous structures discovered during the four years 1995-1998, before tackling the remainder of the book, with its in-depth archaeological descriptions.
