The application of composite grid method to an electromagnetic scattering problem

2012
In this paper, we applied a composite grid method (CGM) to solve the electromagnetic scattering problem of thin wire structures, which can greatly reduce the number of unknowns. Composite grid method derived from the domain decomposition method, solves the formulation on two sets of meshes totally different in mesh-size, the coarse mesh and the fine one. In electromagnetic scattering problems, the fine grid region contains the thin wire structures cause the scattering field. Using the interface boundary condition, the coarse mesh region and fine one are calculated separately, and then the scattering field of the thin wire structure was obtained. The CGM based scheme can reduce the computing effort. We compare the result with the traditional finite element method which partitions the whole domain into fine mesh. The two results agree very well, which demonstrates the validity and efficiency of our method.
