INVESTIGATION ON THE QUALITY OF DRINKING WATER FOR SOME MILITARY UNITS ALONG XINJIANG-TIBET HIGHWAY LINE

2011
Objective To investigate the quality of drinking water for some military units along Xinjiang-Tibet highway line,so as to provide the basis for ensuring drinking water sanitary safety. Methods Thirty items of water source characters and water physico-chemical indicators in more than 20 military units were investigated by visiting on the spot, using portable instrument and water quality detection kit,and evaluated according to the National Drinking Water Standard.Total dissolved solid(TDS),total water hardness, and H+ concentration were tested according to the categories of units and water source.Correlations between altitude and TDS,total water hardness, and H+ concentration were analyzed too. Results There were no color,no smell and taste,no visible particle in all of the water samples.Opacities of the samples were less than 15(NTU).Two units' water pH value(8.6,8.7) exceeded the standard limit.Hydrargyrum concentration in one unit sample was 0.002 mg/L,and not detected in other units.Other indicators were in the range of the standard limits or too little to be tesed. There were no significant differences in TDS,or total water hardness, and H+ concentration among different units or different water source groups(P0.05).There were also no significant correlations between the altitude and TDS,total water hardness, and H+ concentration(P0.05).Conclusion In general, the present drinking water supply for military units along Xinjiang-Tibet highway line are preferable.
