Mundos paralelos y promesas incumplidas. Representación espacial del mundo social en los sectores populares de Chile.

espanolA partir de evidencia empirica recogida encuatro investigaciones en un lapso de doceanos, este articulo se propone presentar y discutir las implicancias de una de las mas extendidas formas de representacion espacialdel mundo social en los sectores populares: elpar arriba-abajo. Tras una presentacion de lospresupuestos teoricos que orientan esta reflexion, se discutiran los procesos mas saltantesque componen la condicion historica enel Chile. Enseguida, el texto analiza en detalleesta forma de representacion en el marco desu re-significacion en el contexto actual, asicomo de las dinamicas sociales que ella revela. La tesis que se defiende aqui es que el que elarriba-abajo aparezca pivotando las formas derepresentacion espacial de lo social, revela elmantenimiento de formulas relacionales queestructuraron tradicionalmente la vida socialpero que hoy aparecen mas que nunca como inadmisibles. Esta permanencia es el humusprivilegiado para una vision antagonica de lasociedad en la que la imagen de mundos paralelos radicalmente separados y una aguda irritacionrelacional se expanden. EnglishDeparting from the results of four empiricalstudies carried out within the past twelveyears, this paper aims to present and discussone of the most extended current forms ofrepresentation of the social world in Chileanlow-income sectors: the use of the descriptivepair “up-down”. Firstly, we will present thetheoretic premises that underlie our argument.Secondly, as frame for our analysis, wewill discuss the most salient processes thatcharacterize the current historical conditionof Chilean society. Thirdly, we will analyze theup-down representation of social world in twoperspectives: the new meanings it acquires and the social dynamics that it reveals. The thesisthat will be defended is that the “up-down”representation of social world is related to theprevalence of relational formulas that traditionallystructured social life, which, due to thegeneralization of some normative ideals, nowappear as especially inacceptable. This permanenceis held as the privileged “humus” for anantagonistic view of society in which radicalseparated parallel words and an acute relationalirritation expand.
