Diagnosis methods’ for Chlamydia trachomatis genital infection [Abstract in English]

Objective: To review the different methods for the diagnosis of genital infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. Material and methods: Review of medical literature. Conclusions: By choosing the method, it must be consider the sensitivity and specificity of the technique, the individuality of the case and the available possibilities. The culture exam for Chlamydia trachomatis is the gold-standard test, due to its’ best specificity in the detection of this disease. Nevertheless, recent trails suggests that the nucleic acid amplified tests have shown better sensibility and equal specificity when compared to the cultural test.
