A lesson not to forget: the socio-educational contribution of the ANIMI to Southern Italy In 1910, a few months after the Messina earthquake of December 1908, it was established a National Association for the Interests of southern Italy with the aim of facing the many difficulties of the regions that were already characterized by an economic and sociocultural backwardness and a very high illiteracy.
