Induction of defence enzyme by plant extracts in rice plant against Xanthomonas oryzae pv oryzae.

Induction of systemic resistance as evident from the increase accumulation of defence enzyme (peroxidase) was observed in Pusa basmati-1 plants following application of leaf extract of Datura metel and challenge inoculation with Xanthomonas oryzae pv oryzae (Xoo). Significant increase with maximum peroxidase activity (1838.6μ mol/g f wt/min) in 2003 and (1882.0μ mol/g f wt/min) in 2004 at 120 h after inoculation was observed in Pusa basmati-1 rice plant treated D. metel extract (15%) followed by challenge inoculation with Xoo as compared to control 942.9μ mol/g f wt/min at 120 h after inoculation in 2003 and 969.7 μ mol/g f wt/min at 120 h after inoculation in 2004.
