Epidemiology and management of traumatic head injury

2015
There is probably no area in medicine where the adage- children are not little adults and infants are not little children has greater applicability than in craniocerebral trauma. Anatomical physiological and developmental peculiarity differentiate this age group from adults. In contrast to adult head injury victims in which the maturation of brain and its covering has essentially halted, trauma to the nervous system of children affects an organ in the process of maturing and acquiring new information. The epidemiology and sequel of head injuries in children differ in several important respects from those in adults and therefore deserve separate consideration.
