Entropy and Free Energy

2019
In thermodynamics a quantity known as the free energy plays a central role. Changes in free energy determine the direction of chemical reactions and the values of equilibrium constants. In this chapter it is shown that a free energy change is just a different way of expressing the total entropy change, and that it consists of two distinct entropic components, spatial and kinetic.
