Transmissão oral da Doença de Chagas: breve revisão Oral transmission of Chagas Disease: a brief review

Objective : To perform a systematic review of literature about the oral transmission of Chagas Disease: Methodology: For this work were queried databases Medline, Scielo and PubMed using the following keywords: “Chagas Disease” and “oral transmission”. Of the papers identified, 31 were selected to compose this review. Results: The data showed that the oral transmission of Chagas Disease presents itself as one-off events and random and are more prevalent in the Brazilian Amazon being registered a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the last five years, with mortality rates ranging from 3% to 35%. Conclusion: This revision work reinforces the importance of knowledge of oral transmission of Chagas Disease because it causes acute outbreaks, leading in some cases to fulminous death of individuals in different age groups and this is a serious public health problem.
