Abstract B92: The effectiveness of a prostate cancer handout for African American men

2016
The purpose of this study is to explore consumer reaction to a revised handout previously created for African American men (UF IRB02 Protocol #2013-U-0757) in order to prepare for widespread publishing and distribution. The population of interest in this particular study is African American men as they are the most at risk for prostate cancer. African American men between the ages of 20 and 70 will be given patient education materials on prostate cancer prepared for men with lower literacy levels. After being given time to review the materials, they will participate in an interview to determine how well they understood the information in the patient education materials. Their feedback will guarantee the development of appropriate material to provide to the African American male community; and inform the general population on how members of a special/minority population feel about the primary cancer found in men, prostate cancer.
