Influence of architecture of composite superconducting tape-based stacks on AC demagnetization for electric machines application

2020
Superconducting tape-based stacks used as trapped field magnets in electrical machines are subject to an AC-demagnetizing field. This study provides experimental measurements of the magnetization and demagnetization of several stack architectures for electrical machine applications. The stacks are made of SuperOx and AMSC tapes. Using the same magnetizing field, rearranging the architecture of stacks was found to influence the trapped flux and the demagnetization. As a first modeling step, a finite element time-dependent electromagnetic-thermal coupled model is used to investigate the pulse field magnetization of the stacks.
