Design of adiabatic tapers produced by controlled core diffusion

The production of adiabatic ‘diffused tapers’ by controlled thermal diffusion in fluorine-doped fibres is investigated. It is concluded that the length of current tapers could be substantially reduced without impairing loss performance.
