Disaster vulnerability assessment of Merapi Volcano eruption

One of the most active volcano in Indonesia is the Merapi Volcano, which is located on the border between Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta and Central Java Province. In spite of its disaster risk, Merapi Volcano has an important role for the livelihood of the population who live in its surrounding area. Several districts which are located within the disaster prone areas of Merapi Volcano have been delineated as regional strategic area for Sleman Regency and Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Province. Due to its importance as regional strategic area, it is necessary to reduce the disaster hazard risk in those areas. One of the solutions could be the reduction of the vulnerability.
