Field ion microscopy of tungsten after high intensity ion bombardment from laser plasma

1999
Abstract Studies by field ion microscopy are reported of the structure of tungsten specimens, irradiated by high intensity ion flux (∼10 22 ions/cm 2 per s) produced in a laser plasma of lead. Amorphousness of the tip specimen was observed; the types of defects produced are assessed. The ultimate mechanical properties of irradiated tip specimens are determined. Future directions of research are outlined.
