Mechanics of Sediment-Ripple Formation

Literature reviewed; ripples are caused primarily by instability of zone of high velocity gradient at surface of sediment laden bottom; for practical application experimental criterion is given to predict formation of sediment ripples and dunes. (26 refs.)
