Trazodone advanced a delayed sleep phase of an elderly male: A case report

2005
This communication reports the case of an elderly male in whom trazodone advanced a delayed phase of sleep. His sleep disturbance persisted for 15 years in spite of the treatment such as bright light therapy. Trazodone at a dose of 100 mg gradually advanced his sleep onset time from 05:00 hours to midnight within six weeks. We supposed that trazodone might shift the phase of biological clock, with a resultant advancement of the sleep-wake rhythm. Trazodone could be used as an alternative treatment for delayed sleep phase syndrome.
