Fall Preventions: A Case Study of Older Patients with Hip Fracture

Abstract: Falls are a major cause of injury among older adults. In case of severity, the older adults who face with hip fracture after falling required hospitalization and surgery. Older patients with hip fracture might have complications, such as infection, leading to death, and have a prolonged recovery period. A long term care affects both physiological and psychological outcomes of the older patients and their families. However, falls could be preventable by risk  фssessments and management of risk factors. Older patients who have experienced of falling are at risk to recurrent falls when they are discharged home. Nurses who are responsible for caring this population are needed to play major roles of assessment and management of risk factors, including internal and external factors. Moreover, nurses should educate and advise patients and their families to better understand and concern about falling. A case study of older patients with hip fracture was presented in this article by analyzing risk factors and synthesizing a care plan to prevent recurrent falls in older adults. The aim of this care plan is to maintain the quality of life of older adults.
