Re-Examination of the Origin of Human Tear LDH

It is generally accepted that our basic tear fluid is secreted in part by the accessory glands of the conjunctiva.1 However, human tear lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is believed to originate from the corneal epithelial cells.2 This report investigates the possibility that tear LDH is derived principally from the conjunctiva.
